UAE: Soon, AI could be judging crimes, analysing cases
A leading official from the UAE government anticipates artificial intelligence will soon judge criminal cases. A trial system that enables AI to adjudicate cases has already started operating in the country's judicial body.
The UAE Public Prosecution has begun using artificial intelligence to analyze cases with clear outcomes that do not require judicial discretion. The justice sector requires fast action.
During the 'AI Everything' summit which started in Abu Dhabi on Tuesday Al Zaabi delivered his remarks. During its three-day run the summit will investigate leading AI applications that are transforming different industries.
He explained that this technology has become widely adopted to enable quicker justice delivery.

He stated that at present AI functions only as an instrument to support justice delivery rather than making decisions.
He presented specific examples of AI applications in prosecution operations throughout the pandemic while noting that authorities remain fully attentive to the process of decision-making regarding violations.
Cameras identified people without masks and relevant entities helped us collect data to identify those individuals. After determining the act could be fined we proceeded to issue the penalty.”
