Trump nominates Fox News host Pete Hegseth to lead world most powerful military
Pete Hegseth is a prominent author, US military veteran and a co-host of Fox News who has been selected for the position of the secretary of defense as nominated by the United States President Donald Trump.
According to his official Website, the messages went to war with infantry in the national guard and was deployed to Iraq and Afghanistan where he reportedly received two bronze star medals.
In 2014, Hegseth joined Fox Network as a contributor to four programs, Fox and Friends Weekend, Fox Nation shows and other programs. The author of several books, he has also authored various books.
Reportedly the president Donlad Trump’s first term Hegseth was considered for the position of Secretary of Veterans Affairs but in the end he was not given the position.
However, now it is being said that there are potential plans for Hegseth to assume control at the Pentagon.
Trump called Hegseth “tough, smart and a true American First believer” in a post on social media for his nomination. He further proclaimed: “With Pete in charge, all America’s enemies are put on notice — Our Military will be Great Again, and America will Never Surrender.” The sentence contains journalistic dialogue and hyperbole as a literary device to make certain ideas more colorful, without disrespecting Hegseth. Undoubtedly without ‘surrendering’ to Hegseth’s enemies.
Indeed, the president-elect shared how Hegseth's achievements as an author speak for themselves, noting in particular that his book The War on Warriors became a bestseller, and emphasized that “it exposes the leftwing treason against our Warriors, and how we must restore our Military to a system based on merit, lethality, responsibility and supremacy”.
Hegseth, it would appear, has some influence in the Trump administration due to his promotion of policies on television. As the Washington Post writes, in 2019, he successfully lobbied for the pardon of two servicemen charged with murder as well as the reinstatement of a soldier who was accused of taking pictures with a corpse in Iraq.
Hegseth is an Ivy Leaguer, though his website indicates he has a Princeton degree. He is a Harvard graduate as well, though he has sent his diploma back to Harvard and has publicly chastised the school for its alleged liberal bias.
He is based in the southern US state of Tennessee, where he resides with his spouse and seven children.
He taps a Fox news file host as president trumps contender to head the US military which brings questions about national security.
