Dubai has announced plans to roll out a single population registry which will encompass a bank, which will at any given time contain the list of all residents of the emirate. This will facilitate service provision and data management including the monitoring of the female population growth, migration patterns and other demographics as well as assist in the different sectors like health, education and city development.

In an appeal made on Wednesday, Sheikh Hamdan bin Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, the Crown Prince of Dubai and also the Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Defence, the Chairman of the Dubai Executive Council issued a directive concerning the people’ registry of all residents of the emirate.

Under this program, the objective is to incorporate all the residents in one database which will capture new data every time, increasing accuracy of data and availability of multiple government services particularly urban development, health and administrative services.

Development of such a registry will be undertaken within the framework of the information projects initiated by the Dubai Data and Statistics Corporation. It will serve as the official source of population statistics for the database.

This database will assist in drafting documents which may include work plans, action plans and policy papers for the government. In addition, it will aid the government in enhancing existing services and programs and even planning for possible growth with respect to the population to inform development of policies both social and economic.

The Dubai Data and Statistics Establishment is in charge of maintaining the population registry and interacting with other authorities in order to collect required information. The entity will also develop, revise and integrate the registry with other registries; write instructions and provide data as well as its security with the assistance of the Dubai Cyber Security Centre.
