Private sector employees in the UAE will experience reduced working hours throughout Ramadan according to a recent announcement from the country.

The UAE will reduce working hours by two hours throughout the country following guidance from the Ministry of Human Resources and Emiratisation (MoHRE).

The authority added that private sector companies are allowed to implement flexible working patterns and remote work in line with their business needs and operational nature while respecting the fixed daily working hours set for Ramadan.

The Federal Authority for Government Human Resources (Fahr) made public the working hours for public sector employees. From Monday to Thursday work hours extend from 9am to 2.30pm while Fridays start at 9am with work concluding at 12pm.

Most Muslims around the world should begin observing Ramadan on Saturday, March 1 according to the UAE's International Astronomy Centre since the crescent moon will be visible in the sky on the previous night as announced on February 13.

The duration of Islamic months is determined to be either 29 or 30 days based on the crescent moon observation. The official moon-sighting committees will gather on February 28 during the 29th day of Shaban to establish the beginning of Ramadan. The holy month will commence on the following day if the crescent is sighted today.
