For people living in the UAE, on 1 January of every year comes the good news of the New Year, but also the looming doubt — will it rain? 


Since the country entered December this year, temperatures have been gradually cooling, and it has rained in some places this month. This has till now seen the lowest temperature at 4.3°C in Ras Al Khaimah’s Jebel Jais. 


The NCM issued an ‘unstable weather’ advisory last week from Monday, December 23 to Thursday, December 26, notifying occupants of anticipated propagation of a surface low-pressure system from the Southeast. 


Climate scientist Dr Ahmed Habib said earlier this month and said: "From 16 December, we will see north-westerly winds with cooler clouds and slowly decreasing temperatures in the region. Temperatures across the UAE will also be reduced by 5-7°C starting in the western region, and gradually moving to the rest of the country". 


"The UAE will be at a high temperature for the next couple of months that’s 25-26°C with a low temperature of 12°C," he said. 


Rain on New Year's Eve?  


So will the rain squelch everyone’s New Year’s party plans? 


Tuesday, December 31, overall, will be a fair to partly cloudy day, according to the National Centre of Meteorology. Wet nights and Wednesday Morning with clouds or mist on some internal and coastal areas. 


Moderate to light winds and moderate sea in Arabian Gulf and Oman sea. Rainfall for the day isn’t expected. 


Rain on New Year day?  


The locals should report a chilly smell and some rain on Wednesday, 1 January 2025. This morning, the Met has published a forecast for light rain and gradually declining temperatures that indicates the likelihood of it on New Year’s Day. 


The outlook for the weekend is fair to partly cloudy over the rest of the province and cloudy across some of the north and the coast. Moderate to light winds will sway, then clear off the coast in particular. 


Sea conditions: Light to moderate, sloping at noon in Arabian Gulf and light to moderate in Oman Sea. 


Weather on January 2, 2025  


The cold temperatures will continue until 2 January 2025 with part cloudy to cloudy weather possible throughout the country, especially for parts of the northern and eastern regions, with chances of light rain, according to the NCM. 


Conditions are going to turn wet at night and Friday morning in some interior regions. Moderate to light winds, gusty occasionally over the ocean. If you have any outdoor activities to be done at sea it will be rough to very rough in Arabian Gulf and moderate to rough in Oman Sea.
