A bridge connecting Dubai will reduce journey time from 15 minutes to 3 minutes as the Roads and Transport Authority opened the road Sunday.

The two-lane bridge (1,000m long) is on Hessa Street. Expected to boost traffic to Al Khail Street.
Already 54 per cent of the Hessa Street development has been completed, making for an open traffic network to Dubai city centre and Dubai International Airport.

This works includes four main intersection upgrades, and should be up and running in the fourth quarter of 2025. These are: Sheikh Zayed Road, First Al Khail Road, Al Asayel Street, and Al Khail Road.

This Dh689-million scheme will be linked to many residential and commercial areas such as Al Sufouh 2, Al Barsha Residential Area and Jumeirah Village Circle. It extends 4.5 km between Sheikh Zayed Road and Al Khail Road.

As of 2030, the population in the service area of this project will total more than 640,000 people. This work will increase the number of cars that can pass on Hessa Street by doubling the speed from 8,000 vehicles per hour both ways to 16,000 per hour.

Four intersections

Here are the four project intersections:

One is Hessa Street/Sheikh Zayed Road intersection where a two-way, directional ramp will be built over the Dubai Metro’s Red Line. This ramp will also enable left-turn from Sheikh Zayed Road to Hessa Street going east towards Emirates Road.

The other intersection will be between Hessa Street and First Al Khail Road where the current Hessa Street bridge will have a total of four lanes on each side as opposed to three. Traffic flow will also be improved at the surface level signalised intersection.

It turns into 3 at Hessa and Asayel Street. This includes increasing the existing bridge width from two to four lanes in each direction on Hessa Street, and updating the surface level signalised intersection for increased flow.
The fourth to be constructed intersection is Hessa Street and Al Khail Road. These are works for a two-lane direct ramp to facilitate seamless traffic from Hessa Street to Al Khail Road northbound towards Sharjah.

Cycling and scooter tracks

It will also be developing 13.5km cycling and e-scooter paths between Al Sufouh and Dubai Hills along Hessa Street. These streets service some neighbourhoods like Al Barsha and Barsha Heights.

They will augment first- and last-mile links to Dubai Internet City Metro Station and commercial and service centers around.

Two pedestrian and bicycle bridges will join a new cycling path. The first bridge is over Sheikh Zayed Road, the second over Al Khail Road. Each bridge measures five metres across, three metres for the cycle and e-scooter tracks and two metres for pedestrian streets.

Its capacity is estimated to be 5,200 riders an hour and is used well by residents as well as tourists.
