The 24-year-old queen of the Philippines, Catriona Elisa Gray, has crowned Miss Universe 2018 in the competition hosted by Bangkok on Monday.

Catriona Gray is the fourth Filipino to win the Miss Universe, making her countrymen proud like never before.

Tamarin Greene, 24, from South Africa, won the title of the first runner-up, while Venezuelan Stavani Gutierrez, 19, won the title of Second Maid of the year.

Before announcing the names of the winners, the top 10 contestants competed for the title, being from South Africa, Vietnam, Venezuela, the Philippines, Costa Rica, Curaçao, Nepal, Canada, Thailand and Puerto Rico.

Catriona Gray, Filipino-Australian, is a television host, singer and fashion model.

She learned to feel grateful and "look for beauty" while educating underprivileged children in Manila's slums when the concert presenter Steve Harvey asked her about the most important lesson in her life.

Gray is reportedly named after her paternal grandmother, Catherine Gray, an immigrant to Western Australia from Scotland in 1952.

Bangkok hosted, for the third time, the 67th edition of the competition, the last time the Thai capital was hosted by the competition in 2005 when Canadian/Russian-born Natalie Glepova won the title.
