Japan has confirmed the restart of its e-visa services for UAE residents, who are now able to request this service via VFS Global beginning August 1, 2024. This action, verified by the Consulate-General of Japan in Dubai, is intended to simplify the visa application process for UAE residents.

Beginning on August 1, the Consulate-General of Japan in Dubai will stop receiving visa applications directly from the general public, except for diplomatic and official visas. This adjustment is intended to simplify the application procedure and enhance effectiveness for travelers.

People who want to travel to Japan for tourism, business, or other purposes that are not diplomatic, are required to apply for their visas through approved visa application centers or agents. This new method guarantees that the consulate can allocate additional resources to handle diplomatic and formal affairs while upholding excellent service standards for all candidates. Travelers are advised to prepare efficiently and refer to the consulate's website for the latest updates.

VFS Global, listed as a partner of the Embassy of Japan in the UAE and the Consulate-General of Japan in Dubai, will manage all remaining visa inquiries and applications.

This new procedure is exclusive to individuals living in Dubai. Residents of Abu Dhabi must still submit their applications through the embassy. The VFS Global website offers extensive information on visa application requirements, documentation, reservation, hours of operation, and processing duration.

The return of the e-visa is a big relief for expatriates in the UAE, enabling them to do the entire visa application process online, including payment. This adjustment is anticipated to once again position Japan as a popular destination, following the halt of the e-visa service on April 27, 2024. Prior to this, individuals needed to send an email to the consulate in order to schedule an appointment, frequently having difficulty in booking available slots.

The recent collaboration with VFS Global guarantees a consistent processing time of eight business days, as long as all necessary paperwork is provided. The temporary e-visa allows entry into Japan for 90 days and stays valid for three months starting from the issuance date. Residents from countries like Brazil, Cambodia, Canada, Saudi Arabia, Singapore, South Africa, Taiwan, the United Arab Emirates, the United Kingdom, and the USA are qualified to apply for the e-visa for tourism.
