Lionel Messi and Aitana Bonmati have been named as finalists for the FIFA Best Men's Player and Women's Player awards, respectively. Erling Haaland and Kylian Mbappe are the other nominees for the men's award, while Jenni Hermoso and Linda Caicedo are also shortlisted for the women's prize. Messi won his eighth Ballon d'Or in October, and the awards ceremony is scheduled for January 15 in London.

The men's finalists were selected based on performances from December 19, 2022, until August 20, 2023, while the women's finalists were chosen for achievements between August 1, 2022, and August 20, 2023. Messi secured his second FIFA Best Men's Player trophy last year after helping Argentina win the World Cup.

Haaland, who finished second to Messi in the Ballon d'Or voting, scored 52 goals in his debut season at Manchester City, contributing to the club's treble of Premier League, FA Cup, and Champions League titles. Meanwhile, Mbappe, the French striker, scored 41 goals across all competitions, aiding Paris Saint-Germain in winning Ligue 1.

Aitana Bonmati and Jenni Hermoso played crucial roles in Spain's Women's World Cup victory, with both players scoring three goals in the tournament. Bonmati also won the Women's Champions League with Barcelona last season. The awards ceremony will recognize the achievements of these outstanding footballers on January 15.

The recognition comes as Messi continues to solidify his status as one of the greatest footballers in history, adding to his impressive collection of individual accolades. Haaland and Mbappe, both young stars, are making their mark in the football world, showcasing their goal-scoring prowess and contributing to their teams' success.

On the women's side, Aitana Bonmati and Jenni Hermoso played pivotal roles in Spain's historic Women's World Cup triumph, showcasing their skills and contributing to Spain's success on the global stage. Linda Caicedo, the Colombian teenage sensation, also earned her place among the finalists for her standout performances in Colombia's run to the World Cup quarter-finals.

The awards ceremony promises to be a celebration of football excellence, recognizing the outstanding contributions of these players to their teams and the sport as a whole. Football fans around the world eagerly await the announcement of the winners, who will join the prestigious list of FIFA Best Players.
