Muslims in the UAE have been urged by the Fatwa Council in the country to observe the crescent of Shawwal on Saturday evening the 29th of Ramadan. The committee called on all able to spot the crescent the evening of March 29 to contact it to have their testimony included.

The Shawwal Moon sighting signals the termination of Ramadan, and the commencement of Eid Al Fitr festivities.

Countries around the world are preparing for Moon sighting on Eid Al Fitr, which will fall probably on Saturday, March 29, 2025. But at least in most parts of the world, the crescent itself may not to be seen, the UAE's Astronomy Centre said. It gave a map as well as an approximate region where one would most probably see the moon.

It added: "Sighting the crescent on this day is impossible in the eastern parts of the world and is not possible in the rest of the Arab and Islamic world with all methods of observation, including naked eye telescopes and astro-photography techniques."

According to astronomical calculations, the holy month of Ramadan is all set to be completed for 30 days. The day following the last day of Ramadan in this case will be March 30. Consequently, this would likely place the first day of Eid at March 31.

Last week, UAE ministries had declared that the Eid holidays for public and private sectors would start from the Islamic calendar month of Shawwal 1 and will conclude on Shawwal 3, 1446 AH. The UAE had announced a new joint holiday policy for both public and private sector workers May.
