Sustainable City Dubai Improves Community Life with Autonomous Delivery Robots
Dubai's Sustainable City, the first eco-friendly community in the region, has introduced a delivery robot test program in partnership with Dubai Future Labs and Lyve Global.
Beginning this month, Dubai Future Labs will trial three autonomous on-demand delivery robots in The Sustainable City community. The robots will offer independent delivery services from all the restaurants and stores in the plaza to residents, using a smart interface powered by Lyve Global.
The distinct design of The Sustainable City, which is entirely pedestrianized and free of cars in the residential areas, prepares the community for a seamless transition to autonomous solutions. The last-mile delivery robots' pilot utilizes advanced robotic technologies to improve safety, cleanliness, and cost-effectiveness, while decreasing traffic, carbon emissions, and waiting periods.
Khalifa Al Qama, Director of Dubai Future Labs at Dubai Future Foundation, emphasized the importance of this project in furthering the ongoing progress of robotics technologies in the transportation, shipping, and logistics industries in Dubai. This project emphasizes the city's dedication to utilizing technology to promote creativity and enhance the general quality of life.
Created by a group of robotic experts and engineers at Dubai Future Labs, these delivery robots have various cutting-edge functionalities such as a Fleet Management System with live tracking, a backend system for order fulfillment and delivery operations developed by Lyve Global, and a Secure Delivery Compartment that can only be accessed by the customer to guarantee safe deliveries.
These self-driving delivery robots offer quick delivery within the community in less than 30 minutes. They will safely and independently navigate sidewalks, find charging stations as necessary, eliminating the requirement for human involvement.
This project is in line with Dubai's larger goal of having 25% of journeys autonomous by 2030 and supports the goal of Dubai becoming the most intelligent city globally.
