Isra Wal Miraj: Oman announces holiday for public, private sectors
Dubai: The Sultanate of Oman declared Thursday, 30 January 2025 as a public holiday in commemoration of Isra Wal Miraj. The vacation applies to public and private workers.
Employers can demand workers to work, if necessary, if they are compensated according to labour laws, the Ministry of Labour explained.
Isra Wal Miraj or Night Journey, Shab-e-Miraj, is very important in Islamic customs as it commemorates Prophet Muhammad’s (PBUH) miraculous trip and ascension.
Three-day holiday in Kuwait
The Civil Service Commission in Kuwait has declared Isra Wal Miraj for three days, from Thursday, 30 January to Saturday, 1 February. While the event takes place on Monday, January 27, Kuwaiti Cabinet shifted the day to Thursday to give the citizens a longer weekend.
During this time, all government offices and institutions will be closed and they will open again on Sunday February 2nd. Essential service providers will change holiday dates as necessary to keep public services uninterrupted.
This was a reflection of the government’s insistence on taking religious celebrations into account in terms of cost-effectiveness.
