According to event planners in the UAE, gender reveal parties are becoming more popular worldwide, with some residents spending as much as Dh500,000 on these celebrations. People in the UAE are going to great lengths to celebrate the event, from drone shows in the sky and light displays on Burj Khalifa to smoke waterfalls and color streamers.
Gauri Chadha, creative director of Big Night Events (BNE), stated that there has been a significant increase in the popularity of gender reveals, both locally in the UAE and around the world.

People have been observed investing as much as Dh500,000 in a gender reveal celebration. The price could vary depending on the party's creative direction and the attendance size, but typically it surpasses Dh250,000. Nevertheless, we have encountered individuals approaching us with a restricted budget, and we strive to provide them with whatever is possible within that budget," she remarked.

The previous week, influencers Nora and Khalid Alherani from Dubai organized a gender reveal event featuring a drone show, considered to be one of the earliest in the area. In 2020, Syrian social media personalities Anas and Asala Marwah unveiled the gender of their baby through a light show on the Burj Khalifa.

Life celebration

Natasha believes that the pandemic has also contributed to the rise in popularity of gender reveal parties. She mentioned that since Covid, we are all discovering more ways to enjoy life. "We should all appreciate the significant moments in life more."

Across the world, certain gender reveal celebrations have faced widespread backlash for causing harm and resulting in fatalities. The gender reveal event held by a California couple in 2021 led to a wildfire that engulfed thousands of acres of land, resulted in the destruction of five homes, and tragically caused the death of a firefighter. Nevertheless, this has not decreased the popularity of these parties; in fact, it appears to have increased it.

Natasha mentioned that due to the increasing popularity of gender reveal trends, more brands are interested in partnering with influencers for these events, and her agency has received numerous collaboration requests.

Natasha mentioned that creating content for brands can be costly, and gender reveal content, which is appealing to brands, is not an exception. She stated that this is a factor that motivates brands to partner with influencers for gender reveal parties.

"We are receiving an increasing number of inquiries for gender reveal support, primarily involving venues, decorations, cakes, hair, makeup, and clothing," she mentioned.

Emotional attachment is often a part of planning events for many event organizers. Kunal Rupani, Managing Director of BNE, discussed an event that was particularly meaningful to him.

He stated that our clients arrived from Paris in the morning, went directly to the doctor, then met with us and gave us an envelope containing the baby's gender. During the planning of the reveal, only one team member was aware of the gender.

The pair aimed to bring the French atmosphere to Dubai, and Kunal stated that the team put in maximum effort to achieve this.

He stated that the big moment was unveiled with bigger streamer explosions and colored smoke displays against a background full of balloons. The occasion took place in a lawn, where we enjoyed special cocktails with candy floss, smoke bubbles, a unique Vespa transformed into a live floral display, and a live drawing session.

The expenses of these events can differ based on the decisions made by the couple. Natasha mentioned that many individuals still opted for very basic gender reveal celebrations. "She mentioned the importance of informing those planning their own gender reveal that it can be done in a simple and cost-effective manner," she explained. They do not need to be expensive. Despite the controversies and different viewpoints surrounding gender reveals, it appears that the trend is not going away. Natasha believes that they will probably become a more common aspect of everyday life. This is already evident with the presence of gender reveal decorations in both physical and online stores. A growing demand is evident and will continue to expand, becoming increasingly commercial.
