Al Nahda tower fire: Sharjah Police investigating cause after 5 killed, 19 injured

Officials have reported that 19 people were injured in the fire that broke out at Al Nahda Tower on April 13.
Sharjah police have started investigating the cause of the fire that started on one of the upper floors of the 52-story residential building, which accommodates over 1500 people from different countries.
At around 11:31 on Sunday morning, a report about the fire was made. Immediately, the area was secured to carve pathways for civil defense and national ambulance vehicles. Teams were immediately mobilized to the location.
Emirates Red Crescent Authority, along with civil defense, national ambulance and police, ensured that there was a quick response. The fire resulted in the deaths of five people while hundreds of residents were evacuated. The injured were provided with the essential care needed.
During the day, residents were gradually allowed to return to their apartments, but only below the 30th floor. The building, opposite Sahara Centre, is one of the tallest in the emirate and, therefore, poses significant danger.
Those who died as a result of the incident included four people who, as eyewitnesses reported, perished after jumping from the building in a desperate attempt to flee the fire, and a Pakistani man in his forties who suffered a cardiac arrest, most likely as a result of the stun from the tragedy.
Al-Naor, Colonel Dr Ahmed Edison, Security Support Engine Relations Directorate General, offered sympathy to the relatives of the victims and wished the best to those who have sustained injuries.
Along with his comments, he underscored that the special team of criminal laboratory has undertaken all the measures necessary to ascertain the fire causation. He said that specialized teams are executing inspections of the site of the incident as a part of completing legal formalities.
